Here is what the new training and virtual reality tools for European civil protection will look like

On March 26 and 27, 2026, all partners in the European Viaticum 2 project gathered in Copenhagen for the project’s second transnational meeting, hosted on this occasion by the NWA (Nordic Wellbeing Academy) team. These two days of intense work served to strengthen collaboration among the consortium’s organizations and provide a decisive boost to the project’s main deliverables.

Two days, three areas of focus

During the meeting, the consortium focused its efforts on three key areas of work essential to the progress of Viaticum 2:

  • Development of training manuals for volunteer civil protection teams that respond to emergencies.
  • Design of the Virtual Reality (VR) platform for the interactive training of firefighters and rescue teams, the centerpiece of the project’s innovative proposal.
  • Alignment of methodologies among partners and joint planning of the next phases of development.

These three areas clearly reflect the dual nature of Viaticum 2: on the one hand, the training and documentation work that underpins any serious emergency protocol; on the other, the technological approach that transforms virtual reality into a safe and realistic training ground for those who have so much at stake in every intervention.

A meeting that reaffirms the project’s direction

This second meeting reaffirms the spirit of Viaticum 2: to professionalize the training of civil protection volunteers throughout Europe, using the same tools and standards in every country. For Serendepia Lab, being in Copenhagen has also meant strengthening our role within the consortium: leading awareness campaigns in Spain and contributing our perspective to the validation of virtual reality tools, convinced that technology, when applied correctly, can save time, reduce risks, and, ultimately, save lives.

With the lines of work now aligned, the project is entering a decisive phase in which these solutions will begin to take concrete shape. We will continue to report on every development.
